





The Porter County Public Library System has openings for volunteers who wish to donate their time in the lively art of serving the public.
The number of hours volunteers work depends upon their schedule, their assignment, and the hours that they can afford to volunteer. If you would like to serve your community through volunteering please visit any branch location to fill out an application or fill out a volunteer application form online.
Possible Volunteer Assignments
Please note, all volunteering opportunities listed below may not be available at all branches of the Porter County Public Library System.
Circulation Aide
Repair books, Clean Audio-Visual items, Filing, Typing, Shelving and Shelf Reading
Clerical Aide
Assist with the processing of Library materials, maintain indexes and special files
Genealogy Aide
Assist with various Genealogy projects including indexing, data entry and photocopying
Homebound Visitor
Visit and deliver materials to homebound patrons, assist in selection of materials, maintain files on patrons served
Program Aide
Assist with Library programs such as story hours and craft programs; create art work for use with programs or displays
Reference Aide
Performs miscellaneous duties at the discretion of the Reference Librarian. Typical duties might include developing and maintaining the local history files and pruning the periodical collection
